In almost every country in the world, Dutch alumni live with student debts. Of the more than 99,000 Dutch alumni abroad, 26,000 are untraceable for DUO. The documentary 'Not My Debt' portrays two alumni abroad: Willemijn (24) and Pascal (35), showing the impact of a high student debt and the consequences of a passport blockade. The documentary aims to create awareness about the psychological and social consequences of a high student debt and to get a young target group thinking about taking out a student loan from DUO.
“If I had walked into the bank at the age of 18 and said: “Hey, can I borrow 90,000 euros?”, they would have said no, so why could I do that with the government?” - Willemijn
