Dochuis, UNDISCOVERED stories by UNDISCOVERED MAKERS

DocHuis is an independent production house focused on developing and producing socially engaged (investigative) journalism and cultural documentaries and series. Together with emerging creators, we tell undiscovered stories through regional and national (public) media outlets in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, independently funded by broadcasters and foundations. We shine a spotlight on stories unfolding right under our noses but few people know about.

We give the next generation of filmmakers the opportunity to share documentaries about the changing zeitgeist with a wide audience. For example, we participate with young (debuting) filmmakers in NPO talent programs 3LAB and Teledoc Campus, where they create their first short documentaries. We also launched our own experimental classroom, DocLokaal, where emerging filmmakers produce documentaries for regional and local media.

ABOUT JULIAN KLOP

Julian Klop (born 1995) is a producer of social documentaries and the founder of DocHuis. At 17, he started as a reporter for a local broadcaster. While studying journalism in Tilburg, he interned at his own company and worked as a presenter for RTL Nederland and DPG Media. After two years of freelancing, he founded the production company Klop Media, with which he created campaigns for social organizations. Since 2023, he has focused entirely on producing documentaries and series, collaborating with emerging filmmakers. Julian also gives guest lectures on pitching, financing, and marketing in the CampusDoc minor at the School of Journalism in Utrecht, and on entrepreneurship at Fontys Journalism. His mission is to guide emerging filmmakers through the film industry.

ABOUT DOCLOKAAL

"DocLokaal" is our own experimental classroom for young documentary filmmakers (20-30 years old) to create investigative journalism documentaries and series for regional and local public broadcasters in Utrecht and South Holland. Under the guidance of experienced project coach Wiesje Kuijpers—who has produced several VPRO documentaries as a researcher—the filmmakers create in-depth documentaries for television and online. With this program, we aim to strengthen local journalism, highlight social issues, and offer young talent a springboard to a successful career. After making a DocLokaal film, filmmakers can pursue further filmmaking opportunities at institutions like Teledoc Campus or 3LAB.
